We helped her by translating her file and getting her study documents recognised in the UK for registration with the General Medical Council.

We asked her how her career was going, and this is what she had to say:

“[The system in the UK] is completely different. Comparing to both the Italian and the Romanian systems, you will have many more opportunities here to build up your CV by making audits, research and publications.

In the two hospitals I have been, everyone is nice and lovely and keen to explain.

For both the Italian and the Romanian IMG: Don’t worry, they do not want you to know every detail. They want to know how you manage clinical case scenarios. Here everything has a protocol (the famous ABCDE).

I advise that, if you have the chance to get an interview, start from the famous ABCDE.”

"Typically you work from 9 to 5 but there are places that ask for late shifts up until 8pm as some NHS practices are contracted to open till 8pm. Salary wise, the more you work the more you earn. Things like special skills eg. composite bonding or courses like implants, veneers etc. can make you money but if you have the patients that will go for private treatment so it depends on the area."

"I'm still in Ireland. Work and life here is very nice for the moment. I am in a town called Carlow which is small but nice. Big clinic with many patients. I never went to UK after all. I considered it at some point to go but I never did it."
